JONONE

JONONE

Born in 1963, JonOne grew up in Harlem, New York. Painter, graffiti artist, sculptor, he began his career during the 70s by writing his name on walls and subways, which according to him, are "museums which cross the city." He moved to Paris at the beginning of the 80s, where he began to work on movement, color, freedom of his line, between abstract art and street spirit, revealing his imagination and his optimistic vision of our society. He met agnès b. and first showed his work at the Galerie du Jour 1989. Their friendship gave rise to numerous collaborations: performances, painting murals and clothing, including a T-shirt sold to benefit the Foundation Abbé Pierre. Recognized by galleries and the art market, he is one of main characters of today’s international street art scene.

ELZO DURT

ELZO DURT

Elzo Durt was born in Brussels in 1980. Following an adolescence drenched in skateboarding and punk culture, he began to flood Belgium with his psychedelic and punkoïd images from digital collages which he often screen prints himself. His universe of widely psychedelic inspiration is at least phantasmagorical, strewed with cosmic allusions and with a very urban vintage touch. In 2004 he opened his art gallery – Plin Tub ‘ - to defend a certain idea of the contemporary graphic scene. As artistic director of Voxer magazine, over the years he established his reputation for designing posters and album covers for many different bands and music labels, specially the Born Bad label. Today his work is displayed around the world. A jack-of-all-trades, Elzo, and his Parisian friend Froos, launched their own Music label Teenage Menopause Records in 2011, a label with which agnès b. has often collaborated with.

SKKI

SKKI

Skki was one of the first artists to develop the graffiti movement in Europe. He began painting graffiti in the streets of Paris during the early Eighties with Jay One. In 1982, he founded the group Bad BC with him and Ash. He then took part in many international events, painting with artists like Goldie and Vulcan in NYC, and later hanging his works beside those of Basquiat and Keith Harring. Between 1988 and 1990, the Berlin Wall was his favourite surface for working. During the Nineties, his work took a new direction, and he painted increasingly on canvas, sticking on images of a tiny character, Skki, which served as his logo and developed his work as a graphics artist. He now lives in New York, where he created Visual PollutionTM, a concept involving the infiltration, exploration and twisting of dominant graphics and communication techniques.

ROBERTO MARTINEZ

martinez

Born in 1956. Lives and works in Paris. All of Roberto Martinez's work is a reflection on the image and its status in our society. Beyond that, he tends to become one with the flow of images, especially television pictures, those that are intended for him in one way or another (hence the occurrence of the name "Roberto"), or else he reconstitutes inner journeys. He thus sings the praises of an encounter, be it intentional or accidental. His multifaceted, completely unfettered work probes every medium, with a preference for books. He also critiques normativity, collecting images that defy official standards of taste or having children make one of his pieces, as he did during his 1996 Galerie du Jour show.
