Ten years ago, the  Rana Plaza disaster

On April 24, 2013, a building housing a textile factory, the Rana Plaza, collapsed in Bangladesh.

Nearly 1,200 workers died; hundreds more were wounded. These workers worked for major Western fashion brands.
This drama marked a turning point for the fashion industry, and in particular for  "fast fashion", who could no longer absolve themselves of responsibilities within their supply chains .
In 2017 France passed a law for the duty of vigilance which obliges large companies to map the environmental and social risks of their supply chain and publish a plan to prevent risk.

agnès b. loves our suppliers!

agnès b. has always chosen our suppliers carefully. We consider them first and foremost as partners, and have often worked with them for many  years, sometimes since the beginnings of the House in 1975.
Since 2021, agnès b. adheres to ICS (“Initiative for Compliance and Sustainability”).
This initiative aims to support our suppliers in favour of a sustainable improvement of working conditions of their employees and better protection of the environment.
Through ICS, we require them to respect social and environmental commitments, verified through independent audits. Each year 100% of our suppliers sign the  agnès b. social and environmental ethics charter.

La Fab. opening Sunday February 2nd, 2020

Stylist, philanthropist and art collector agnès b. has promoted artistic creation under all its forms, the environment and solidarity for many years. La Fab. aims at bringing all these activities together under one single roof.
As a galerist since 1983, agnès b. will present a first exhibition including works from her own collection, with the help of the historical team of Galerie du Jour.
La Fab. will also include la Galerie du Jour, which will become a kind of house where everything is for sale: paintings, sculptures, photographs, some furniture … agnès would find herself “ensemblière” as she likes to say.
La Fab. will also house la Librairie du Jour, a bookstore where publishers will be invited to contribute to the selection and presentation of works on display. Le Point d’ironie will be distributed here. Finally, La Fab. will spotlight the social and humanitarian actions supported by fonds de dotation agnès b., as well as agnès’s environmental activism, spearheaded by Fondation Tara Océan.

exhibition Tara, mission microplastics 2019

On the occasion of Tara’s stopover in Marseilles (in front of Mucem museum), agnès b. presents the objectives of the schooner Tara’s new mission.
Involved on the microplastics topic in the oceans for more then 10 years, the Tara Ocean Foundation and her partners want to explore and identify the flux of plastic waste from land to sea in order to stop it. The main objective of this new mission is to compare the type of plastic pollution coming from the major rivers in Europe.
From June to November 2019, Tara will sail through several regions in Europe, exploring 10 major European rivers to determine the exact origin on land of the plastics found at sea.
Where does plastic waste originate? What impacts do plastics have on marine biodiversity? Microplastics are the result of the degradation of macro-debris. These tiny fragments have numerous interactions with marine organisms: they can disperse potentially invasive species and pathogens attached to plastics, and accumulate toxic products and endocrine disruptors which then enter the food chain, etc.

Ragyard x agnès b. and Electric Retro Spectrum's concert!

It was during a trip to London few months ago that agnès b. discovered this small family brand located in Brick Lane. They buy the best vintage pieces that they bring back to life... a unique way to reduce waste and express their creativity! ... so many common points with agnès b. who very quickly decided to offer this small English and family brand its Street shop on 4 rue du Jour!
And on June 21st, from 7 to 9pm, concert of Electric Retro Spectrum (band signed by Born Bad Records and playing on July 6 at the Astral Festival)… for the music festival!

The schooner Tara is in London, focusing on microplastics on the Thames

10 rivers will be studied by the Tara Ocean Foundation to understand the origins on land of plastic pollution in the oceans. Objectives? Where does plastic waste originate? How does it arrive in the Ocean? Where should we concentrate our efforts to stop the flow of this waste? What impacts do plastics have on marine biodiversity? Recent estimates find that 80% of plastic waste found at sea originates on land. The Tara Ocean Foundation has been involved in this research since 2010. Now it is urgent to explore and identify the flux of plastic waste from land to sea in order to stop it. The upcoming Mission Microplastics 2019 — with the CNRS in charge of scientific coordination — will take the schooner Tara through several regions in Europe for 6 months, exploring 10 major European rivers. The Thames is the first river studied by the scientists. Tara will be docked in Sint Katharin’s Marina from the 11th to the 13rd of June 2019.

Flowers, MARTIN PARR

On the occasion of the Parcours Saint-Germain whose theme for the 2019 edition is La Fleur de l’Art, agnès b. has the pleasure to show works by Martin Parr, an artist she was one of the first to show in her gallery, the galerie du Jour and which photographs are also in her collection.
Among the themes dear to the British photographer are food, tourism, couples scenes… but also flowers…
In 2001, agnès wrote: “It was during 2 to 3 years that Martin Parr showed me this work on flowers. The flowers in life, the “consolation” flowers to make it perhaps more cheerful?” At the time, agnès had even made a small book that will be available in the exhibition!
