Ever since her House was created in 1976, agnès b. has never stopped working with French manufacturers. "We remain faithful to our suppliers, it is a question of ethics. ‘Made in France‘ is an asset." as the stylist likes to underline.

“I’ve been taking photos for a very long time.“


Passionate about photography, agnès b. never leaves her camera. Thus, her photographs punctuate all her collections! The neon lights of Tokyo, the graffiti on New York streets or the flowers of a garden are all source of inspiration and patterns that will be printed on an outfit.


It is in a digital print workshop that the fabric becomes the support of the photographe. The skirt prototype is then mounted in the agnès b. workshop, then it is tried on by a real mannequin to apply the finishing touches.

Located in Paris’s 18th arrondissement, the workshop has been printing photos for agnès b. for more then 17 years. A quality print, as beautiful on the reverse side as it is on the right side!

Once the pattern is print on the skirt, the rolls of fabric are send in Vendée, in a couture workshop agnès b. has been working with since the 1980’s. It is with a very high attention that the fabric is cut on the laying table. The placing of the image must be respected to set the image on the skirt perfectly. Six stages are necessary before becoming a skirt.

Created in 1979, the iconic item of the brand is manufactured in the city of Troyes. Since almost 40 years, the snap cardigan and many jumpers of the brand are made in this small factory which, with the Transnit machines, produce item without seams and with the rib edging all in one piece. Originally meant for items of lingerie, those circular looms reproduce the items just as the stylist had designed them.

“It is a piece of art as well as something for people to live and sleep with. It gets worn out and you love it all for more for it. You lose it, someone else finds it, it moves on. Even if it’s an object which in itself isn’t of great value, you get particularly attached to it because it has a special significance. It’s a fantastic vehicle for a piece of work, for ideas, for a joke, as well as for asserting yourself too.”


In 1994, on the advice of the Cuban artist Felix Gonzales Torrès, agnès b. created a white T-shirt with the simple sentence “Nobody owns me” printed on the back ; it was a big success. Since then, many artists illustrated these T-shirts collectors.

To print these artworks, agnès b. has been working for more than 20 years with the same screen-printing workshop located in Paris. Screen-printing onto fabric is a delicate process, each stage is important and the skill of the screen-printer makes all the difference!

In 1997, it is in the Pyrenees - birthplace of the beret - that agnès b. has chosen a workshop created in 1840 to have her berets made. Symbolic accessory of the style « à la française », the manufacture of the beret requires a real know-how. Declined in many colors, the agnès b. beret distinguishes itself with motives such as the lizard or these embroidered sentences, dear to the stylist: "b. yourself", "love goes one" …
